Captain D's
When Captain D's approached us a few months ago about our shelter participating in this year's Pups for Pups event, we were very excited and optimistic but nothing could have prepared us for just how successful and profitable the day's event would turn out to be. In four short hours, ACS received a whopping $1,136 in monetary donations as well as boxes and boxes of cleaning supplies and pet-related items brought to the five participating Captain D's locations by animal-loving customers. On top of that, Captain D's gave us another $500+ representing 5% of the event's proceeds in sales. Several of the dogs and cats that visited the stores during the event were also adopted.
So, to the wonderful staff and crews of the participating Captain D's locations and to the generous people who patronized those locations and brought donations, a big THANK YOU! Your generosity is greatly appreciated by the ACS staff, Board of Directors, and - most importantly - the shelter's canine and feline guests.
VISIT THE CENTER To learn more about the shelter and meet our staff, volunteers, and pets in residence, please feel free to drop by the center during our opening hours - Wednesdays 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM; Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM; and Sundays 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The shelter is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
HISTORY The Animal Care Society was established in 1984 by nine founding members. As membership grew and funds permitted, the Westport Road Center was built in 1989 enabling ACS to expand its work.
MISSION The Animal Care Society's prime purpose is to find new, caring homes for pets whose owners can no longer give them the love or care they need. We provide a "home away from home" atmosphere and access to medical care. Because our space is limited and we do not practice euthanasia, a pet's age, temperment, and health are factors we must assess before taking in any pet.
FUNDING The Society operates as a private non-profit organization under Section 503 of the Internal Revenue Service code. Annual membership dues, bequests, and donations to the Society are tax-deductible to the extent of tax laws. The Society does not receive grants from any local, state or federal agency.
