Derby Fashion Show Raises Funds for Louisville Non-Profit Animal Care Society

Dogs took a walk down a runway on Sunday in NuLu for a good cause.

The 2024 Rescues and Roses Derby season fashion show was held at NuLu Marketplace. All proceeds from the event were donated to Animal Care Society, which supports dogs and cats in Louisville find a forever home.

The free event had seasonal cocktails, a vendor market and a fashion show for people and their four-legged friends.

“At any given time we’re at full capacity as most animal shelters are in town and this is a great opportunity to showcase the available dogs for adoption,” Jason Wetherington, the Animal Care Society executive director, said.

Animal Care Society’s Expansion Doubles Its Capacity

Kentucky’s first no-kill shelter is planning to expand its campus as the organization celebrates is 40th anniversary.

Currently, Animal Care Society’s facility is able to house 24 dogs and 35 cats, providing shelter, medical care and love to animals throughout the community.

Wednesday, they announced they’ve acquired extra land to grow the campus on Westport Road, near the Ford Truck Plant.

The group executive director said the new expansion will double the shelter’s capacity.

Animal Care Society in Louisville, KY Expanding No Kill Shelter

A Louisville no-kill animal shelter is celebrating 40 years with a big announcement.

The Animal Care Society is expanding its facility on Westport Road.

It purchased land next door for the expansion, which will become an adoption center and cat area.

The shelter currently operates on around an acre of land but will be adding more than five acres.

With this addition, Animal Care Society will be able to care for more animals in need.

In our August newsletter, we really pushed registrations for the 20th Annual ‘Bark in the Park’ 5K presented by PetSuites and included a belated thank you letter to those who made the Brunch By Night Gala hosted in May such a success! Our August newsletter also introduced Animal Care Society’s new Executive Director, Jason Wetherington, who was selected by the Board of Directors in June of 2023 and featured medical and adoption success stories that happened at Animal Care Society this past month!
